Making research data findable, accessible, interoperable, and reusable (FAIR) is a priority of the Norwegian Research Council (NFR). The research council also requires all projects to have data management plans. NOR-Openscreen has prepared guidelines and resources for DMPs and FAIR data management for your high-throughput screening and bioprospecting projects.

Data Management Plans (DMPs)

We suggest that users of NOR-Openscreen utilize the data stewardship wizard (DSW) DMP tool developed by ELIXIR. This tool guides the user through creation of a DMP that can be exported in a format suitable for applications to NFR and is also machine-actionable.

We have developed an exemplar DMP to guide users through specific needs and resources for HTS and bioprospecting data management.

More information and guidance about DSW and exemplar templates is available here.

Making Data FAIR

We have created a data management cheat sheet for HTS to help you identify standard data formats, controlled vocabularies, and respositories that you should utilize to make your data FAIR.

This cheat sheet and other resources are made available via the Life Science RDM Look Up, which can guide to you many RDM resources including those specific to Norway.

Ethical Legal and Societal Aspects (ELSA) of Research Data

Researchers who use NOR-Openscreen's services are responsible for evaluating and managing ELSA for their research projects. Nodes within NOR-Openscreen can transmit sensitive research data in a secure manner, but sensitive data should be managed by the user via TSD provided by Sigma2.

It is the user's responsibility to ensure their project has been properly assessed by their institutional review board before the project is transferred to NOR-Openscreen. Each node of NOR-Openscreen follows the relevant institutional policies for sensitive personal data:

RDM Policy at NOR-Openscreen

Research data collected for users at the nodes of NOR-Openscreen is owned by the user and the user has the ultimate responsibility for FAIR data management of those data. However, NOR-Openscreen attempts to adhere FAIR data principles when collecting data at our infrastructure.

Several funding agencies and institutions in Norway have their own RDM policies and further information on these is available through RDMkit.

We are also available for consultation if you need assistance with data FAIRification or DMP creation. Please contact chembio@ncmm.uio.no.
